A-to-Z Challenge: T is for Traveling Haiku

Day 20 of the A-to-Z finds the Fool on a trek to an exotic locale.

To celebrate the journey — and all journeys, really — I’ve composed a haiku:

May the skies be friend-

-ly, and the flight attendants

swift with potent drinks.

See you Tuesday, Blog Follower(s)…

A-to-Z Challenge: D is for Dogged

I’m four days deep into the annual A-to-Z.

For the first time, I’m participating in the monthly IWSG blog hop.

The IWSG provided a prompt for this month’s post. Here it is:

When your writing life is a bit cloudy or filled with rain, what do you do to dig down and keep on writing?

Clouds? Rain? Hellooo Doubt.

Doubt and I are well acquainted. He’s the loudmouth who dominates the party in my head. I’ve tried dis-inviting him but he shows up anyway, sometimes with a six pack and a bag of Doritos. We hang out, enjoy each other’s company, time goes by then I realize I forgot something critical, something I had to do, you know, write.

He’ll tell me, “Grehan, why bother? The writing’s gonna stink.”

I accept as fact that Doubt’s never wrong so I’m better not to hear him. I send him off on a task. Let him advise the people on the page. I’ve noticed they tend to have too few cares.

Okay, that’s bunk.

I can’t fool you into believing that mental game works for me, or any other writer. You can’t get rid of this guy. You can’t sidetrack him. Doubt’s a multi-tasker. He’d make a great employee if he applied himself to something useful but don’t wait for that to happen.

When Doubt comes knocking, how do you dig down and keep on writing?

Don’t you love when the answer is in the question.

Study your dog, your friend’s dog, your neighbor’s dog. Be the dog and keep digging. Head down, nose to the ground. You might not surface with the bone you’d set your snout on, but I guarantee your effort will be rewarded.

Be the Dog.

Moon Dog: Artist unknown but much appreciated.

IWSG’s co-hosts this month are Olga Godim, Chemist Ken, Renee Scattergood, and Tamara Narayan!

A-to-Z Challenge: C is for Conference Feng Shui

Welcome to my submission for Day 3 of the A-to-Z Blog Challenge. Today’s offering is one of my Photoshop Procrastination Mashups.

A Mock Workshop.

Please don’t for a minute believe this is real, and careen from ballroom to ballroom at your next conference in search of this (much needed) master class.

The idea was inspired by the handful of writer’s conferences I’ve staggered through over the years. To fledglings, these events can feel intimidating. Not to mention, you spent cold hard cash. Sacrifices were made. You drank budget beer. Postponed a dozen haircuts. You told the little ones at home that Mickey went belly up. There’s a lot riding on a single weekend!

Writers Conference Mock Workshop. Feng Shui. Create Good Luck. Writing humor. Image photoshopped by CV Grehan. Notice The Fool makes a cameo? And Trolls? The image has a lot going on. You’ll find a breakdown of its parts on the site.

I threw the mashup together in a hurry. Feeling a little sheepish now. What am I worried about? 1.3 billion websites, who’s gonna see this?

Tomorrow I’m doing double duty. A-to-Z and the Insecure Writer’s Support Group blog hop.
